At our school we have Captains and Prefects. To be a Captain or
Prefect you have to be good all year before you get to Year 6. We have to
make a speech to be on the ballot paper. After the speeches students in Years
3 to 5 and teachers vote. The Captains are announced on Presentation Night.
The next day the Principal announces the Prefects. The next year you get
a badge. You know I'm Captain and so is Andri for the school.
For being a Prefect you get a badge and have to sign a pledge as a school leader.
Our Prefects names in 1998 were Jasmine, Matangi, Kara, Talia, Phillip, Jaxon, Christian, Debbie. Our School Captains are Andri and Andrew.
We have lots of responsible jobs like running the weekly Assembly and each morning you have to line the classes up and keep them quiet while the teachers are talking.
You get to go to important ceremonies and represent the school. When you get your badge on Assembly you also have to sign a book which all the other captains and prefects have also signed.
There are always extra jobs to do for the teachers and kids to help
the school be a better place.
The kind of responsibilities you get being a Prefect are you have to take care of the Assembly and also we have to take care of the children, it's a lot of fun and sometimes it's hard work. It is most important to set a good example for the younger kids.
I hear you asking how do they know you are a Prefect? Well it's not
only because the way we act but also because we get presented a great golden
and maroon coloured badge with the name Prefect or Captain at a special Assembly.
