We have lots of people who play lots of different instruments. There are 9 different instruments.
We learn different songs every week. We compete in concerts and play at school presentations. Each year some children join the band as beginners. Our teacher and bandmaster is Steve. He is a really great teacher. The fee is $40 a term.
We have a really great band and sound very good. We got a certificate
when we played in the Manly-Warringah Eisteddfod.
Brookvale Public School has a very good choir. We came first in the Warringah Eisteddfod Choir competition in 1998. The songs that we sang were 'Into My Heart' in Samoan, Tongan and English, 'And Walk Right In'.
We had one of the smallest choirs but now lots of kids have joined the choir and it sounds better.
On September the 14th it will be a special night during Education Week and we will be joining other choirs and singing lots and lots of songs. The theme is modern songs like Father and Son, Titanic, I Swear, Hero, I Say A Little Prayer, Change The World, Every time You Cry and I Can See Clearly Now.
Being in the Choir is important and we train every Wednesday afternoon
and sometimes at lunch as well.
Some songs we know are Aura Lee, Red River Valley, Psalm 100, Song of Joy, Minuet and Waltzing Matilda.
The fees are $20 a term. In that $20 you get guitar hire and tutoring.
We have learnt how to hold a guitar, read music and where to put the
fingers on the guitar.
Our School has a talented group of singers called the Leolelei Singers. The word Leolelei is a Tongan word for great singing or voice.
Last year in 1997 the Leolelei Group had about 9 students, they came first at the Warringah Eisteddfod. This year we have 13 students in the Leolelei Group.
This year we have performed on the Manly Ferry, at St Andrews Church, at the Junior Cultural Festival, Narrabeen RSL, and we are going to perform at Dee Why RSL and also at Warringah Mall.
The Songs we sing this year are People Get Ready, In To My Heart, Isa
Lei, Amazing Grace, Shelter, Banua, River of Dreams. We train in the mornings
once a week and sometimes on Saturdays for special events.
