Sports Houses

By Kara

Everyone in our school is in a school house. We have four houses and there is a competition between them each year. Each house has different colours. The names have Aboriginal meanings.

The houses are :

* Baringa that is yellow - This means 'light'.
* Woomera is red - This means 'wind'.
* Eurobin is blue - This means 'lagoon at the foot of a mountain'.
* Malbooma is green - This means 'throwing stick'.

I'm in Baringa. It is fun to be in houses because when we have carnivals we have races and a person from each house runs or swims and you get points. We can earn points for our houses by doing good work etc. in class. Whichever house gets the most points wins each week. At  the end of the year all the points are added up and the winning house gets a trophy.

At carnivals everyone wears their house colours.
