Brookvale Public School

We have school holidays 4 times each year. They are usually 2 weeks except at Christmas which is about 5 weeks.

In 1998 they were :

April 10th to 26th

July 4th to 19th

September 1st to October 11th

December 19th to the end of January.

Most public holidays are in the school holidays but we do have one on June 8th, it is to celebrate the Queen's Birthday.

Some children  have written about their holidays below.
 

On the holidays I went to Palm Beach with Jack and Philip. It was on a Wednesday morning. We had to pick Jaxon up after Jack and Philip picked me up. It took about 2 hours to get there.  Jack and Philip brought Millie too, that's their dog. We came back home around 5:00p.m. It was a fun day.

On Sunday the 12th of July 1998, my family went to  Queensland to the Goldcoast for 3 days.  We stayed in a hotel called "WaterMarks".  It cost about $129 a day. It was a terrific hotel. We got a card to get in the hotel. We got 2 cards for the electricity and for the light. Every night we swam in the pool. There were also a gym room.

The next day we went to Movie World. The first ride that we went to was Batman Ride. It was a really cool ride. After going on the ride we went to see how they make movies. They made 'Batman For Ever' at Movie World.   We also saw where they make costumes like Batman's costumes and so on.  We also went on a Gizmo ride. I liked the one that squirted water.  My sister bought a Gizmo doll. We went on lots more ride.

I also liked the Stunt Show. When we arrived back home it was nearly 6:00p.m. We had a few minutes rest and when it was about 7:00p.m we went to the Italian Restaurant. After eating we went to late night shopping, well kind of like a late night shopping. We didn't buy anything.

When we got back to the hotel we got changed into our swimming costume and we swam in the swimming pool.  My mum and my friend's mum didn't swim.  When it was 10:00p.m we got out got changed. We watched T.V until about 11:00p.m. We went to sleep around 11:30p.m.

The next day we went to Dream World. It was a lot different to Movie World. Dream World had lots more rides than Movie World. My most fun ride was "Wipe Out". I also liked the car driving.  My 2nd favourite ride was Tower of Terror. We had to line up for almost 40 minutes. The ride goes almost 120km per hour. It wasn't that scary then Wipe Out. Wipe Out was a bit scary for me. My sister and Eri went on it twice. After that ride, our bus was waiting so we had to go back to the hotel.

At night we did the same thing again. We went shopping and the restaurant.  When we came back we swam in the pool like always.

The next day we had to leave the hotel and 11:30a.m. we made hotel person mind our stuff. We went shopping once again and we bought some things this time. We also went to Time Zone and played one game. Then we had to go back and get our stuff.

We arrived at the Airport around 3:00p.m so we had an hour left so we ate something at the airport. We arrive back in Sydney at  5:08p.m.

In my holidays I did lots of great things. These were our winter holidays last July.

I went to my cousin's house and on Saturday we went to Bankstown it was raining very heavy so we went to Macdonalds.

The next week my family went to Australia's Wonderland and when we got there my dad and I first went on the Demon and after that we went on the Pirate Ship.

At 2:00 pm my cousins Amelia T and I went on the space probe it was very scary but I had fun. After that we went to get a drink then we went on the water boat that was fun. We went on lots of rides.
 

On Thursday 30th April 1998 we went to the airport. We flew out by Alitalia  via Melbourne to Rome.

We were met at Rome airport by my cousin. He took us to their home on the outskirts of the city.

We went sightseeing to the Spanga Steps on one day. We saw the beautiful fountain. We went to the subway train station and caught the bullet train to Spanga, an old town in the country. They have kept many old buildings in Spanga with cobblestone streets. The steps were big and long. The steps were rough. The church was beautiful and it had a picture painted on the inside. It was a mural of Jesus with goats. The pews in the church were flat and didn't have a back on them. My cousin threw a coin in the fountain.

We caught the bullet train back to Rome. The food is different in Italy to here in Australia. Lots of fresh tasting pizzas and spaghetti, fish and Italian  drinks like beers and wines.  I like Italian ice-cream. We saw gypsies in Rome and went to the Shopping Centre to buy toys like Beast Wars.

We went to Naples for a day by train and had lasagne for lunch. Naples is the second biggest city in Italy. At Naples we drove around and looked at the sights.

School starts there at 7:30a.m. and finished at 1:00p.m. My cousins are good and nice. My cousin's name is Mero. There dog was so good too. My cousins were so good . We stayed in their house down below. We had a good time.

Mero took us to the airport when we had to leave. The plane flew out from Rome, Bangkok, then Melbourne before Sydney. In the plane we have lunch and dinner in the plane.

I had a lot of fun at Italy. Then when we got home I was happy to see the dog called Banjo. I really was happy.

Italy was fun I should live there. I'm going again in the year 2000 with my dad.
 

One day Beacon Hill Scouts went for camp to Mungo Brush. We arrived late afternoon on Friday the 13th. It was a weird place but it was these other kids. They looked so scared at five o'clock it was dark.

We made a fire and we had a good time telling stories and doing dances. Then suddenly everyone went dead quiet, we heard someone coming towards us.. coming closer and... closer. It was only our leader. He told us to go to bed because it was nearly twelve o'clock. So we all went to bed. We didn't end up getting asleep until much later. We all had nightmares.

The next day we had a discussion and we decided to go home. The ghost of Baden Powell he got in the bus without us knowing about it. He came to Sydney with us. When we got back and started to unpack the bus, we saw the ghost lying on the bottom of the bus. The leader yelled "RUN!" We all went back to the hall and got the pictures of Baden Powell. We put them outside the hall but it chased after us.

It saw the pictures and he disappeared into thin air. We went outside and finished unpacking the bus. Our parents weren't expecting us to be home so we had to walk home with all our bags.
