Hansard is a name for a printed books of debates and speeches in
Parliament. NSW
Hansard commenced reporting in 1879.
In addition to reporting the two chambers of the NSW Parliament, the
Legislative Council and the Legislative Assembly, Hansard reports
Parliamentary Committees, conferences and meetings.
For more than a 100 years the basic system was using a pen to make
shorthand notes then dictating to typist using typewriters.
Since 1987 reporters use a shorthand system without needing a word
processing operator. Now reporters use computer technology. The
standard period or note taking for the reporters is 10 minutes. Hansard
has
21 permanent employees in NSW Parliament.
