Year 6 waiting
outside NSW Parliament House.
By Stella
Last Wednesday on the 5th of November, Year 6 went to NSW Parliament
House.
We got there by public bus. When we got to the city, we had recess at a
park that used to be where the soldiers use to camp in the convict
days. When we finished our recess we walked up to Parliament House, on
the way we past a Mint where they used to make money, but we weren't
allowed in.
We finally arrived at Parliament House. We got a free morning tea,
which was cake and orange juice. We ate while we waited for Brad
Hazzard then we went on a tour of the Parliament House.
Our first stop was at the green room, which was called The Legislative
Assembly. We had a debate on whether school children should get a
salary for going to school. Some children were chosen to be a Member of
Parliament representing the government side and the opposition. There
was the Speaker, the Clerk, the Premier and other members. The
Government side won.
There were cloves on the walls, which had the names of all the past
speakers. On the top, there were rooms for the public that watch the
debates. There was even a room used in the olden days when unmarried
women come to watch the debate they were separated from all the nasty
men in the other room.
We visited the Old library and had a brief discussion about it then we
went to the Legislative Council, which is the red room.
The red room represents Royalty, where Queen Elizabeth II can come and
listen to the debates and also speaks. The Queen is only allowed to go
into the Red room but never in the Green room.
We watched a group of Adults in the red room learning about what the
Members of Parliament (MP) sit and what they're minister for. Before
they start debates they have a Sergeant of Arms that carries the Mace
up to the table and they begin (This is also something they do in the
Green Room).
When our tour was almost over, Brad Hazzard showed us an Aboriginal
display which they display Aboriginal paintings and things.
When it was over we went out to The Domain (Botanic Gardens) and had
lunch. After lunch we walked to the General Post office and other
places and had a really quick look. We also went to the Convict
Barracks (where the convicts used to stay) and had a look inside. We
saw the displays and around the outside where the courtrooms were. We
couldn't go into see the rooms because we didn't have any money.
After all that we took the public bus again and went back to school.

On the 5th of November Year 6 went to N.S.W Parliament to House to meet
Brad Hazzard our local member of Parliament. On our way to Parliament
House we got to see some of the World Cup rugby flags. When we got to
Parliament House we first had morning tea. After we had morning tea we
got to meet Brad Hazzard. He said a couple words and who, and what he
works for and what he does for MP for Wakehurst and as a Shadow
Minister.
After he talked to us he took us to the Green Room, the Legislative
Assembly. After the Green Room we went to the Red Room the Legislative
Council. When we got there we had to be very quiet. After that we had
to say our last good-byes to Brad Hazzard and then leave and have lunch
at the nearest park.
It was such cool fun and especially meeting Bad Hazzard and being in
N.S.W Parliament House.

On Wednesday the 5th of November Year 6 went to NSW Parliament House to
see Brad Hazzard.
We went on a public bus to the city. We were lucky because there were a
few seats, half of us were sitting but the other half was standing. We
got to the city and had recess and went past the Reserve Bank and some
old buildings.
When we got to Parliament House we had a second recess, they gave us a
piece of cake and a cold glass of orange juice. When we finished Brad
Hazzard came and asked us some questions. He asked Mr. Taylor to choose
two people to have a photo with him Mr. Taylor chose me and Jackson we
had the photo at the dining room.
Brad Hazzard told us to come with him, he took us to the green chamber.
When we got there he told us where he sits, he uses to sit at the front
on the left. He told us all about what they do and what they say.
He showed us a sheet, which says at the front "Payment of School
Students Bill 2003" he told us that we they had to read it and make a
discussion. We had a debate.
After we went to se other parts of the Parliament then went to the park
for lunch.
