The Coat of
Arms.
By JP and Jackson
In 1912 King George V made up the coat of arms for the New South Wales
Parliament. It is a shield containing the badges of the six Australian
States. The shield is a symbol for the Federation of the Australian
states, which took place in 1901.
The New South Wales Coat of Arms is based on the Golden lion passant
(right to left) with a kangaroo on the left. The British Lion is in the
centre of the cross on the shield with pictures of agriculture on the
cross.
King Edward the VII granted a coat of arms to the State of New South
Wales in 1906.
The motto is, 'Orta Recens Quam Pura Nites' which means
'Newly Risen, how bright thou shine'.
