Year 6 debating
in Parliament.
By Siobahn
In the Budget the Government explains how it is going to raise and
spend the money for the next financial year. It seeks approval
from the Parliament to spend the money.
Every year, the Government sets out to the Parliament its budget
papers. It explains which services (e.g. education and health) it
intends
to provide and how it
intends to pay for them.
Each year the government looks at what it thinks the state needs. This
involves the Government considering its priorities, how much
money it will have and what it can afford.
The budget is put before Parliament and debated. It is introduced into
Parliament by the Treasurer in the Legislative Assembly and then
debated. When it is voted for and passed it is then sent to the
Legislative Council, which repeats the process.
When it is passed by Parliament by both Houses it is then sent to the
Governor of
N.S.W. to be signed.
The Budget is presented to Parliament in May and passed in June ready
for the new financial year in July.
