This book was produced by Brookvale Public School in preparation for the International Food Night held on September 1st  this year (2000).  The recipes in this book were kindly contributed by the families of students from all classes of this very multicultural community. They were then typed, edited and formatted to be added to the school's web site by the diligent efforts of the Class 5/6T and their teachers.

The project is part of a wider educational goal which aims at both promoting multiculturalism  within the school community itself and creating links to the broader community.  Food is a universal language, which we all enjoy and food reflects something of the unique culture and customs of its country of origin.

Brookvale Public School is proud of cultural heritage of its students and  families, although all these cultures could not be represented in this book to date. The school undertakes to promote cultural awareness through school social events, such as the International Food Night, which are not only educational, but enjoyable occasions for whole school community - students, parents and school staff alike.

We wish you could join us on this night, but we would at least like to share these delicious and exotic recipes with you in the hope you can experience 'a taste' of the countries represented here. Many photographs of the night are used to illustrate the cookbook but do not necessarily reflect the recipes on the page.

This is an on-going project and we hope to continue to add to our book, particularly from our keypals overseas. If you have a recipe you would like to share, please send it to our email address. As this is a multicultural book, please include something of the cultural origins as well.

Enjoy your culinary travels!

In 2003 and 2008 Brookvale Public Public School held other successful International Food Nights. Many more mouth watering recipes were given by many parents which have added greatly to our Cookbook.

Children and parents from many classes brought in recipes, 6T typed these up, layout and design was completed by the Student Research Team.

Well done everybody envolved. Enjoy!
