Showing us that he will not fall out no matter what!

On the 5th of June 2003 6T and 5G went to Dee Why to celebrate World Environment Day. We went to learn about the environment by going to five different activities. These activities were N.S.W Fisheries, Beach Safety, Water Wise, Going Bats and Wriggly Worms.

My favourite one was one of the last activities we went to, it was called Wriggly Worms. First we learnt that worms are great pets to have. They are good pets to have because you can keep them in a worm farm and feed them all your scraps which is really good for the environment. But you can't feed them lemon or vinegar and not to much meat or the box that you keep them in will smell REALLY bad and the meat can also go mouldy which isn't good.

We also learnt that all worms are part male part female and their tails are bigger than their heads and that they have the same digestive system as humans. We were told that the longest worm was 30m long. After we learnt about worms we all got a container of worms to keep.

I had a really great day and by the end of the day I had eight containers of worms and I made a worm farm when I got home.

On the 5th of June year 5G and 6T went to World Environment Day at Dee Why, there was a number of other schools involved too. It was really windy and all the tents were noisy from the wind hitting them.

One of our activities was called Going Bats we learnt about all sorts of different bats around Australia. We learnt all sorts of things about bats such as how the mother bats carry their babies long distances. However, when the bats get tired and when they land on electricity wires and most of them die because they get electrocuted but the babies usually survives. If they survive the national parks and wildlife come to rescue and save the baby from electrocution.

We also learnt that there are 90 species of bats and that they can fly 100 km in a night. We also learnt that they eat nectars, pollens and fruit. Bats also can't get separated from there groups, otherwise they can't survive.

There were lots of other activities that we went to which were called New South Wales Fisheries, Beach Safety, Wriggly Worms and Water Wise.I enjoyed Beach Safety and New South Wales Fisheries the best because they were the fun activities.

During the days activities, I learnt how to help improve our environment and to change some habits to create a  healthy environment. I had a great day.

On the 5th June years 5 and 6 went on an excursion to Dee Why beach. It was Environment Day. This environment expo was held to help us to remember how to keep our country clean. There were other schools at the expo as well. It was muddy and windy day.

Our first activity was Water Wise. I learnt that everything  that goes down the drain- like food scraps thrown out of cars or thrown by people while walking on footpaths, dogs dropping, apple cores and other fruits, grass clippings, soap from cars and others, all affect our water ways.

Some good ideas to help are to take a plastic bag with you in the car just in case you have food scraps or others, pick up dog droppings, wash your car on the grass, use grass clipping as a compost.

Ingrid was our guide for this activity. She read us a story about littering and pollution. We all had film cases which had different things in them. On each film case there was a name that was part of the story. In the film cases there were dirt, grass, lolly wrappers, soap and lots more. The water went from clean to very dirty.

There were lots more other activities that we went to. These activities were New South Wales Fisheries, Beach Safety, Wriggly Worms and Going bats. The one I enjoyed the most was Wriggly Worms. I enjoyed it the most because we were all allowed to take wriggly worms as our pets.

Another part of the day that I enjoyed was when the Flying Fox spat out the seeds after sucking the juice out of a fig. They were also cute as well.

I learnt that if the environment could be more cleaner every year. It would work if everyone help to make it a better place.

It was really cool I enjoyed being there and I would like to go again. The weather was windy and couldn't hear from inside the tents.
