"Councillor" is speaking.

On Wednesday the 18th November, 6T went to Warringah Council in Dee
Why. We travelled by foot and when we arrived we had recess. After
recess our guide, Georgie took us into the building. We first had a
look at the past Mayors who photographs were on the wall. There was a
necklace that the Mayors wear and they have the names of past Mayors
engraved into the little gold square.
When we finished looking at those we went to where the council debates.
We had a mock council meeting so we all had pretend jobs to do. We
debated about whether or not we should build a Children's Youth Centre
built in Dee Why. In the room there was a Mayor, Minute
Secretary, General Manager, four councillors that are against the
construction of the Youth Centre and four councillors that are for the
construction of the Youth Centre and there was also the public citizens
that watch the meeting.
The councillors gave their reasons for having or not having the centre
built. After they gave their reasons, we had a vote. It was a draw, so
now the Mayor had to vote and she voted for having the Youth Centre
built.
Everyone had fun in the mock council meeting, I had a good day and
learnt all about Warringah Council
On the way back we went past the Federal Parliament office of Bronwyn
Bishop our local member. She invited us in and talked to us about
government. A few doors up we went and talked outside our state
member's office, Brad Hazzard.

On Wednesday the 19th of November 6T, Mr. Taylor and Miss Evans went on
a walking excursion to Warringah Council.
When we got there we had our morning tea outside. When we finished a
lady called Georgie met us and told us that she was new she was just
there for 4 months.
We went inside and downstairs and saw pictures of all the old Shire
Presidents and seven pictures of Mayors. There was a gold chain with
all the Shire President's names too.
When we finished looking at the pictures, there was a chamber opposite
the pictures where they had their meetings. We went inside and sat down
and watched a video about what do local councils are responsible for.
The video wasn't long it just took us twelve minutes.
When the movie finished, she told the people who were chosen to act
where to sit. Laulea was the Mayor, the 8 councillors were Stefan,
Heavila, JP, Gabriel, Gabriella, Emma, Kylie and Siobahn the General
Manager was Rodney, the Minutes Secretary was Sally, the Journalists
were Stephen, Daisy and Stella, the public speakers in favour were
Samira and Mandeep and the public speakers against were Adam and Rhys.
We debated the topics and voted in favour that the Youth Centre should
be built.
