On Monday the 30th June 2003, class 6T went down to Brookvale Creek
to do Streamwatch. At Streamwatch we check the water and do tests like Salinity,
PH, Temperature and Turbidity.
In Salinity we have to check how much salt there is in the creek.
In PH we have to check if the water is alkaline and acidic. We also
have to check if the temperature is right for the sort of water they have
at the creek. In Turbidity we have to look through a tube and see how clean
the water is, we know how clean the water is because we have to look through
the tube and there is some lines at the bottom so when we can't see the
lines we look at the side of the tube and see what the number is on the
side.

On the 1st of June 2003, Year 6 went to Brookvale Creek, for the
second time this year, to do Streamwatch. Streamwatch is when we use special
equipment to test the water in our creeks/rivers to see whether they are
healthy or not healthy.
First we gathered our equipment and lunch, and then headed to Brookvale
Creek to test the water.
When we arrived, we all split into groups of 6 and worked together
to test the water. We tested the temperature, PH, salinity and turbidity.
We tested them at two sites, Clearview Place and Pittwater Road. We did
4 tests for each site.
First we visited Clearview Place to test the water in a shaded area,
and then we walked to Pittwater Road and tested water in a warmer area.
The results were:
Clearview Place
(site 1) Pittwater Road (site 2)
Temperature: 13 15
Turbidity: 10 10 P.H:
7
7
When we finished testing both areas, we collected our equipment in a little black box, and headed back to school to have our lunch.
