On Thursday 27th of March we went to Brookvale Creek to look at bugs,
and check the water. We tested salinity, temperature, turbidity and the ph
(acid) in Brookvale Creek and at the Golf Course opposite Warringah Mall
shopping centre.
* Salinity at the Rainforest was 480MS\cm at the Golf Coarse it was 445MS\cm.
* Temperature at the Rainforest was 17°c and at the Golf Coarse it was
22°c.
* Turbidity for the Rainforest and Golf Coarse were exactly the same at <10.
* Ph were the same again at 7 each.
The result for Brookvale Creek is good but for the Golf Course it was doing
poor. The results show that the water quality is much better in the natural
environment at Brookvale Creek.
Mr Taylor later uploaded our results to the Streamwatch website.
The water was clean.

After our Waterbug training, David explained to us how to use the Streamwatch
kit. It was very easy.
Our tests were for Salinity, Temperature, Turbidity and acidity (Ph). Each
group took it in turns to do their tests.
We first tested the water in Brookvale Creek in the rainforest. The results
indicated the water was good.
We then walked to the other side of Warringah Mall, it took about 20 minutes.
We then also tested the water quality of Brookvale Creek after it went through
Brookvale Industrial Area at the golf course. The results were the water was
poor.
The results showed the water quality is much better in the natural environment
in Brookvale Creek than near the golf course.
I had a great day.
Testing the temperature
of the water.

On the 27th of March Year 6 went to Streamwatch at Brookvale Creek. David
and Alison from Streamwatch came to help us, we learnt how to use the equipment.
We did Streamwatch water testing after we did the waterbug survey.
We measured ph, turbidity, temperature and salinity. When we tested the water
first in the rainforest the water was perfect. We thought it was going to
be disgusting and horrible
When we finished out tests the other groups did their test until everyone
had a go at it.
Then we followed the creek through the pipes of the Brookvale Industrial
Area. We stopped every time we saw one bit of the pipe and had a look until
we came to a golf course so we decided to check the water there.
We did the same tests and the water was bad. So when we finished we went
back to school.
