Part of the ceremony.
By Jackson

On the 30th June four prefects Kylie, Laulea, Adrian and I went up to North Head with Mr Richard to commemorate the 61st anniversary of the midget submarines who attacked Sydney Harbour in 1942. There where lots of other Prefects from many other schools.

When we arrived we had a look at the beautiful view of Sydney Harbour then we started walking up to the area where we would commemorate the 61st anniversary of the attack on the harbour with the Japanese midget submarines. On the way we stopped and looked at some artillery which the people in World War 1 and 2 used in battle.

We followed a path which would lead us to where the ceremony was to be held. Once we got there a few people would give us a badge and a program. Once we got that we found a seat and sat down.

At the end of the ceremony we had some morning tea which was two cookies and a drink. After all of that we all learnt a little about what happened on that very day. We all had a very good time and headed back to school.

The view of Sydney Harbour from the North Head.

On the 30th of May four prefects Laulea, Jackson, Kylie and I went to North Head on Sydney Harbour to commemorate the 61st anniversary of the Midget Submarine attack in 1942. Mr Richard dropped us off in the morning. There were over twenty different schools at North Head.

When we arrived we had a look at the view. Then we went in and sat down, the first thing we saw were some cadets being the Honour Guard. It was very interesting to see them, after a while the men started to faint sadly because they were standing too long.

Tony Abbot, a local member of Federal Parliament gave us a report. A navy crew did their honour guard which was quite different to the cadets. Then a lady from Pittwater House sang a song and a navy crew played the last post as the flag was lowered.

Tony Abbot gave another speech and then a man gave a speech about when he was in a ferry and the midget blew up the ferry he was on and he survived.

Then we had a snack and a drink then we left and we arrived back at school.

On Friday the 30th of May 2003 Mr. Richards and four prefects (Adrian, Laulea, Kylie and Jackson) went to North Head for the 61st Anniversary Commemoration Service. Lots of students from public schools, high schools and colleges were there as well. When we arrived there by Mr. Richards’s car to North Head.

When we got there we walked around and saw lots of war guns and so on.  We were a bit late but when we got there we got a program and we also got a badge that said “SALUTING THEIR ENEMIES”.

They were already starting the introduction and the welcome to the guests, which was from Tony Abbot. After that all the guests sang the “National Anthem” and “Royal Anthem”. Following that Steve Gower a director and Neil Roberts a survivor of World War II were guest speakers. After that Paras Antzoulatos from Mackellar Girls High school did a speech of thanks.

Straight after that we sang “Song Of Australia” which was followed by the “Prayer Service”. The “Wreath & Book Laying” was done after that. After that they did the “Lowering of the Flag” with the “Last Post” done with a trombone by Sonja Lindsay. After that there was “I Vow To Thee My Country”.

After all of the programs they provided us some recess and went back to School.

IT WAS FUN!!!
