Manly Dam.
By Daisy
From 20th to 27th of October was Refugee Week. We learnt a lot about
refugees from school.
We watched a video about refugee and Mrs. Islam came to our school and
talked with us for refugee because she worked in refugees' camp in
Thailand before.
The video talked about who are and who might be refugees, why some
people became refugees and how can people become refugees. Some people
became refugees might because they lost there home; there is a war in
the country they live; personal belief and so on. Many of the refugees
go to other country illegally, because they are worried about
themselves. Refugees are always in the Detention Center. They worked
there, and they also feel very lonely. They miss their families,
friends, but they can't go back.
Mrs. Islam talked about what did she do and what is it like in the
refugee camps. People always die in the refugee camps. Each family just
has a pot of water each week. That's not much. Children don't have many
things to play with, but they love football. They always play football
happily.
We learnt a lot on Refugee Week. We learnt that we should be nice and
friendly to the refugees because they are just like us.
In the bush
around Manly Dam.
By Sally
On Wednesday, 29th October, 6T went to Manly Dam for our Wednesday
excursion.
We walked all the way there and it was quite tiring. When we finally
arrived we had our recess and then Chris the ranger came and talked to
us about what should and shouldn't be at the dam. There was a
picture of a fox, possums and other animals.
After the talk we started our bushwalk. We went up the hill. During the
walk we saw lots of different plants and Chris told us about them. We
even saw black cockatoos and bees forming together. We walked back down
the other way and ended up back at the spot we were in the beginning.
Then we had lunch, after lunch we walked across the bridge above the
dam and headed back to school. We saw lots of flannel flowers in
Allenby Park, there had been a bushfire last year and they love fire so
there were thousands of them. It was really pretty.
