How could children make rockets that actually launch? Well, here's
how… Linda (our teacher), supplied us with cardboard, hooks, thread, and
textas and scissors, and gave out instructions. All of the class started
gluing, colouring, cutting and creating their own, personalised rockets.
That was the week before but yesterday - YESTERDAY, we launched our rockets.
Linda and the class headed out to Balgowlah Oval, and set up a launching
place. When it was my turn to launch, I placed my rocket on the grass, stuck
in an engine and two thin metal wires. I hooked a wire to each metal stick,
then Linda and I stood back. Placed a wire onto the battery, and told me
to do the same when I was ready. The countdown began… 5… 4… 3… 2… - BANG!!!
A loud explosion as the rocket soared into the sky, then another pop! as
the top popped off, and a parachute came out. My rocket actually ended up
across the road, in someone else's from yard.
After the launching, we had a party and then the usual class of Public
Speaking. The day was amazing!
