Convicts Barracks & Reserve Bank

The guard's room.

On Wednesday the 5th of November, Year 6 went to N.S.W Parliament House. We caught the bus there then we walked to Parliament House.

Afterwards we went to the Convict Barracks. At the Convicts Barracks we saw how bad the conditions were at the barracks, what they used at the barracks and how it was really dark and they had rats going through the building. They lived in really bad conditions and the architect for the building, Greenway was actually a very skilled convict. At the front of the building there are guard tower with a fireplace where they had to guard against people coming going out and trying to escape from the buildings. The convicts were treated badly.

At the Reserve Bank we saw how they made money and how they printed it so it is impossible to forge. They also showed us what they did with old money,  they did was they turned it into plastic things like bins. The Reserve Bank is the bank of the government. They print all the money for Australia.

At the banks Mr.Taylor told us in the olden days the people didn't care how high interest rates were the people put there money only in the banks that look good and that had marble columns and things like that.

Wednesday 5th November, Year 6 went to N.S.W Parliament House for an excursion. We also went to the Reserve Bank and Convict Barracks in Macquarie Street.  We caught a public bus from Brookvale, to Wynyard.

We then had recess with Brad Hazzard, MP for Wakehurst. He showed us around Parliament House. After Parliament House we went to The Domain which is a grassed area for such things as Carols Nights. Lots of people were playing sports and exercising in their lunch times.

We then went to the Convict Barracks where they still had a wall from the original time it was built. The convicts used to work hard all day and were kept there at night.

We then went to the Reserve Bank. We saw a display of fifty dollars notes as it was being printed with all the different colours and layers added at each stage.

When we arrived at Wynard, we walked down Martin Place and past the Reserve Bank. We then went to N.S.W Parliament House.

On Wednesday the 5th of November, Year 6 went on a excursion to Parliament House the Reserve Bank and the Convict Barracks.

We caught the bus to Parliament House then we went to the Convict Barracks. At the Convict Barracks we didn't go in to far but when we got in we could see all the rat tracks under the floor and in a cabinet there was a whip, rat skeletons and more.

Then we went to the Reserve Bank and saw how money was made and olden day money too.
