Year Six visited the Australian National Museum in Canberra. This museum
is full of things about Australia, and has three main topics - People, Land
and Nation.
Our first stop was the Circa Room where we sat in a group on a platform
that rotated. At each rotation stop we watched a video on one of the topics,
People, Nation, Land. Land was about how Australia has changed since the
beginning. People was about the multi-culturalism of Australia. Nation was
about the starting of the government in Australia and the importance of Canberra.
First we went to People, and watched a short video on the ways and nature
of the Aboriginal people. We listened to the story of a woman called Tara
as well. In Nation, we learnt about the Old and New Parliament House and
how Melbourne and Sydney had debated over where Canberra should be. In the
section called Land, we learnt about how Australia has gone from a bushy plain
to a civilized country.
We also visited an Aboriginal Display in the museum. We got to see a huge
video, view different instruments, tools, and clothing of the Aboriginals
and learnt about the culture.
Everyone learnt a heap from the museum. We recommend Canberra and the
National Australian Museum to everyone!
