Brookvale Public School

The Rainforest

By Cecelia and Irol

We have a rainforest in our area. It is about 10 minutes walk from our school. It is in the hills behind many Brookvale factories.

When we walk into the rainforest it is cool, dark and damp. There are many tall trees with vines growing up into them. There is a lovely creek that flows through it. When we follow the track it  goes up the hill. The trees become smaller and it is sunnier. There are even termites nests up in the
dead trees.

When we go up further up the track we reach a beautiful waterfall where we stopped.  The track goes over the waterfall and back to the start passing many beautiful flowers and trees.

The waterfall in the hills just a short walk through the streets and factories.
An enormous termite nest.
A banksia if flower.
Epacris flowering in amongst the ferns. like tiny Christmas bells.
Xanthorrhoea, a large, spikey plant grows further up the hillside in more open forest.
Brookvale Creek eventually leaves the forest and flows through the industrial area and eventually into Curl Curl Lagoon.
