Last Wednesday, October 18th, Mrs Islam came and spoke about Refugee Week. Mrs Islam told us about what a refugee is and how they are a refugee.
A refugee is a person fleeing from their country from war, etc. For example you live in Australia then there is a war and for safety of your family you sail on a boat or fly by plane trying to get into a different country.
An Asylum Seeker is a refugee person who tries to settle in a different country, they cannot return to their own country because they fear for their lives. For example you were born in Australia and you want to a live in a different country.
When Mrs Islam had finished she had gave us a poster from Austere.

On Wednesday the 18th of October Mrs Islam came to the Library to speak about refugees. She told us about Refugees and Asylum Seekers. An Asylum seeker is a person who fear for their life in their country and settling in another country. A Refugee is the same as Asylum seeker except that they are only running away from their country.
Mrs Islam gave us a poster from Austere and let us borrow a CD-ROM. It was pictures about refugees.
Trying hard to answer the questions.
On Tuesday parents visited Brookvale to have a talk about refugees and some of the facilities for them. A refugee is someone who comes to Australia illegally because they cannot go back to there country, for or various reasons such as war, economy or law.
Some people are allowed into Australia but usually have to wait years, which is why they come illegally. The parent that came to Brookvale Public is part of a refugee camp, which takes in refugees and looks after them, but other places like Thailand have detention centres. Illegal refugees are not allowed citizenship and aren't allowed to work. Refugee week cancels out some of the myths about refugee week. Like they come into Australia for bad intentions and other stories that aren't true.
Refugee Week helps a lot for the reputation of refugees and raises money for them also.

Last Wednesday Mrs Islam came to our school for Refugee Week. She told us what an Asylum Seeker is and what a Refugee is. She told us that a refugee is someone who is forced out of their country either for their religious beliefs, dangers, persecution and other reasons.
She also told us what an Asylum Seeker is. She said that they are people that have moved from their country to another country from fears of wars, religious beliefs and other concerns in there country. They are refugees but are wanting to live permanently in a new country.
She also told us the most important thing about refugees is that they don't come by choice.
We learnt a lot about Refugees and Asylum Seekers.
At the end Mrs Islam gave us a disc to put in the computer and see refugees
in there camps and we also received a poster from Austere.
