Brookvale Public School

On Monday the 19th of November people from the House Of Steps came to Brookvale Public School to talk to us about disabled people like themselves. Their names were Erica, Matthew, Lisa and Denies.

At first Tom the man who took the disabled people to our school talked about the house with no steps. The house with no steps provides camps, celebrations, parties and clubbing. The house with no steps is up in Blears. Then he let Matthew talk about his life.

Matthew lives in Narrabeen with his three other people in a house and his hobby is mowing the lawn. He wants to get a saw and cut down the tree in his backyard that is already falling apart. He catches two buses to Blears and his job is packing boxes His friend has gone to Ireland to play bowling and compete with other teams. Then it was Denise's turn to speak.

Denies lives in a unit by himself and he catches a taxi to Blears. Denies likes scaring people on his motorized wheelchair he likes drag racing too. He likes the motorized wheelchair the best so he doesn't get tired pushing the wheels. It has been ten years for packing boxes into boxes and he wants to retire. It was Erica's turn to speak.

Erica got teased at her school and they called her four eyes and spastic. Her feelings were hurt. She said that it is still going on and it hasn't changed. Her job is cleaning and working in the kitchen when they need her. She loves her job. She went to North Sydney Demonstration school she was in the O A classes. Erica mentioned that there is a special Olympics provided for them you can do basketball, bowling, soccer and athletics. Erica and her boyfriend went to watch Matthew play baseball. Matthew likes baseball. Lisa was after her.

Lisa plays 10 pin bowling and she got teased at her school. She likes shopping and walking. She lives in manly in a unit and she lives by herself, for five years!

Then it was time for them to go. But first we took a photo and they handed out something's. I had a great time!

On Monday the 19th of November Tom, Matthew, Erica, Lisa and Denies, came from The House With No Steps. They came to talk to us about, how life is with a disability.

The House With No Steps is a charity although Australia. They help with an intellectual disability live independently, if they're able to. The House With No Steps is not an institution, it's a house that you and me live in. It different activities to do even employment.

Erica and Lisa get paid by dusting and kitchen work. Matthew and Denies pack boxes for a job. The person that started this charity was Lineal Watts 40 years ago.

Matthew lives in Narrabeen and likes to mow the lawn and go to parties. He can also catch the bus by himself. Lisa likes 10 Pin bowling, she lives in Manly and likes to go shopping. Erica said she got teased at her school and likes her job. Denies went to Snuffled school. He likes Drag racing and scaring people on his motorized wheelchair and he says his job is boring.

I thought the talk and visit from The House With No Steps was very interesting.

On Monday the 19th of November five people came from The House With No Steps and they came to talk to us about the lives of the disabled people live. But they only came to talk to our class in the library which is 5/6T. There names were Matthew, Denies, Erica, Lisa and Tom, but they all had something wrong with them except for Tom because he looks after the people at
the House With No Steps.

First Tom talked to us about The House With No Steps and introduce the people to us and then he said that The House With No Steps started by a man who was polio and started doing a charity and his name was Lineal Watts.

Also he said that The House With No Steps is held up is Blears and that the program is only at the Philippines and Australia and then he said that there is something called independent and that is about when disable people live buy them selves Isn't so cool because someone who lives by themselves and has a problem wow I'm not that smart any way he said that the government prepares special passes for special taxis and buses.

Then after Tom was Matthew. Matthew favourite thing to do is mow the lawn. Also Matthew said that he wanted to get a saw to cut down a tree at his house. After he said that he once he lived with two other people and he did not like it and he said that it is much better living individual. So that is right.

Then he said his job at The House With No Steps is packing and he liked it. After Matthew was Denis and he went to Sunny Field Public and he is on wheel chair but that does not matter because he is still normal to me and he said that his job at The House With No Steps is packing and he doesn't like it and he want's to retire because he doesn't like that job any way.

After wards he said he likes his motorized chair and that he likes scaring people with it well people at his street and those that are at the House With No Steps. Denies lives by him self in a unit and he said that he has a problem with his knee and that's why his on wheel chair.

Denis has to catch a taxi to Blears which is where The House With No Steps are and he said the same thing which all of them said that it is better living by the selves then with other people but they were all taught how to live by themselves by there parents or whoever lived with them when they were young. Then he said that he never gets that much contact with his family and that was
so sad and when he said it, it nearly made me cry.

After Denies was Erica and she went to a public school and she was in a special class and that class was called the OA class and that class is for those that have a problem with them and the others will tease her and called her names like four eyed so to me there is no problem about her and she is just like everyone and she is not different any way then she went to Mosman High.

Also Erica's job is dusting and setting things up for special occasions and things also I forgot she works at The House With No Steps and she likes it there.

After Erica was Lisa and she loves ten pin balling but she did not say that much but she also said that in her public school people teased her and she did not like her like they said she was four eyed and that was so not fair.

So I would like to say that it is not fair to tease people that have problems with them and there just like you and me and no one is better than any one were all the same. So remember what I said and keep it in your head forever.
