On Thursday we had a Federation Assembly at our school hall. The Assembly was run by James and Annalisa. We had the Assembly to celebrate when in 1900, 6 Australian Colonies joining together to be one country without having a war.

Federation is 100 years of Australia. So we got a special medallion. The medallion was gold and very shinny. Every child in the whole school got a medallion, in fact every Primary School student in Australia. We got told not to take them out of the plastic because if we didn't touch them they would be worth a lot.

Later in the assembly Mr Hat did a performance with his guitar. He sang ''Waltzing Matilda.'' We were allowed to sing along too. By the end of the song the whole school was singing.

The Federation Assembly was the best assembly I have ever been to.

On the 10th of May Brookvale Public School had a Federation Assembly. We had the Federation Assembly because of how the six colonies joined into 1 country the Federation of Australia in 1901. We didn't have to have a war to become independent, we had a vote.

We had a performance from 4/5G about the 100 years of Federation. After their performance Mr Hat a teacher, came up to the stage and the whole school sang the song ''Waltzing Matilda.''

After our performance Mr Richard and the prefects were calling out classes to come and get their medallion. The medallion had a picture of some children and at the bottom had 1901-2001. There were words like one hundred years ago, six separate colonies came together to become one nation - The Commonwealth of Australia. On the other side was a map of Australia.

In the centenary of federation in 2001 is a time to learn about our past to celebrate Australia's achievements and to recognize where we can go better.

For young Australian's, the 100th anniversary of nationhood is a special chance to think and talk about the future.

Australia : It's what we make it.

On 10th of May after scripture all classes went to the hall to have Assembly. It was not a normal Assembly this was an Assembly to celebrate Australia's Federation.

Everyone sang our National Anthem, Advance Australia Fair and Waltzing Matilda one of Australia's most famous songs. Class 4/5G read some great history of Australia.

We celebrate Federation because Australia became a nation in 1901. Close to the end of the Assembly everyone got a Federation Medallion send from the Federal Government.

On the 10th of May our school had a Federation Assembly in the school hall in the afternoon. It was a special assembly for 100 years of Australia's Federation.

Each child got a medallion on that day and we even received a letter from the Prime Minister of Australia which Mr Richard read. We also sang the song 'Waltzing Matilda' with Mr Hat playing the guitar.

When the assembly was finished, we all went back to our classrooms with our medallions.

Letter from Mr Howard,
Prime Minister of Australia

Australia's Centenary of Federation is a wonderful occasion to celebrate so many of the achievements that have made this country what it is today.

One hundred years ago, the people of the Australian colonies came together and drew upon their commitment to a fair go, hard work, reward for effort and strong family life to build a proud new nation. Their efforts and those of new generations of Australians built a country which is now the envy of the world.

It is with thanks and pride that we consider ourselves to be such a free and decent people.

We owe so much to those who have gone before us - farmers, miners, scientists, policemen and women, teachers, those with a trade, a profession or in business, sports people and the military - Australians who have set the finest example for us to follow.

Today, along with young men and women around Australia, you will receive a specially minted Centenary of Federation medallion to keep to remember the nation's 100th birthday.

Your local member, Tony Abbott, joins with me in hoping that this medallion will always remind us how far, as a nation, we have come and how confident we can be to travel even further together.

The Federation Medallion.
